Who We Are
Julia Sarewitz and Victoria Trinko met as graduate students at Teachers College, Columbia University, where they recognized a significant gap in discussions and educational offerings around matrescence—the developmental transition to motherhood. Driven by a shared passion to address this need, they founded Seed Mother, drawing on their academic training and experience at Khora, The Maternal & Reproductive Psychology Lab at TC.
Guided by the mentorship of Dr. Aurélie Athan, a leading matrescence researcher and reproductive psychologist, Julia and Victoria crafted an innovative maternal education curriculum centered on matrescence. Their unique blend of academic expertise and practical knowledge has deepened their understanding of the complex dynamics surrounding the process of becoming a mother. Their research study assessing their matrescence education program's effects on maternal well-being was recently accepted for publication in the Maternal Health, Neonatology, and Perinatology journal.
Meet Victoria
Victoria is co-founder of Seed Mother™, a matrescence educator, researcher, yoga practitioner, and devoted aunt to her nephew Monty. She holds a Masters in Psychology in Education with a concentration in Spirituality, Mind, Body Practice, and an Advanced Certificate in Reproductive & Maternal Well-Being from Teachers College, Columbia University. During her time at TC, she served as a Research Assistant and led Community Education & Engagement at The Maternal & Reproductive Psychology Lab.
After a nine-year career in communications, Victoria pursued her passion for spirituality and maternal psychology. But it was the unexpected loss of her brother in 2021 that highlighted the importance of education, ritual, and community during difficult transitions. She realized that while society recognizes the grieving process, it often overlooks the process of becoming a mother - a transition equally deserving of acknowledgment and support. Victoria is committed to equipping mothers with the tools they need to turn the challenges of new motherhood into opportunities for profound personal growth.

Julia's postpartum challenges underscored the significance of personal wellness and spiritual practices during this transition. Passionate about educating mothers, she believes prenatal education should encompass wellness and ritual coaching. A lifelong teacher, Julia is dedicated to guiding mothers through their unique matrescence journeys with confidence and support.
